"For the past three years, I have had granddaughters enrolled in Salem Preschool. As a result of conversing with them, I have a clear picture of the Salem program, instructors and related classroom activities. There is no doubt in my mind that my granddaughters enjoyed every day at Salem. The school provides an excellent environment, caring instructors and well-appointed classrooms. Equally important is the curriculum itself which I know has fully prepared my granddaughters for kindergarden, one who is now moving on to 1st grade and one entering kindergarten in the fall of 2013. I can recommend, without hesitation, the Salem program for its development of both social and academic strengths in children while providing an enjoyable place to learn."

Our program has a well-planned, two year curriculum with a Christian emphasis. We are licensed by the Department of Human Services, State of Minnesota. There are 20 children in each class taught by two teachers. Each day’s activities will be planned by qualified staff members. Our goal is to help children relate successfully to their peers and the world around them as well as to be prepared for kindergarten.
Our curriculum strives to introduce our students to their world and their community through creative play, books, songs, special visitors and field trips. We also hope to learn about each other, how we are alike and different, and to appreciate and respect ourselves and others.
Salem Preschool is open to three, four and five year old children of all faiths and cultural backgrounds. The purpose of our school is to provide the best possible Christian environment for the growth and development of children. The first five years of a child’s life are very important in forming the attitudes and traits which he/she will carry with him/her. Through games, crafts, creative dramatics, stories, music, indoor and outdoor play and sharing time, we hope to help each child grow socially, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually and move toward a positive self-image. A copy of our Child Care Program Plan is available for review upon specific request.
Good communication with our parents is very important to our staff. For this reason we start each year with a Preschool Get-Acquainted Conference in September before school starts. Parent-Teacher Conferences are held in early spring to let you know how the school year has been going. We also post “daily activity” notices outside our classroom doors and send monthly newsletters home with the students. Our school booklet, class lists, Calendar of Events, etc. will be handed out at our Parent Orientation Meeting at the beginning of school. Phone calls to our teachers and director as well as occasional visits to our classrooms are welcomed.

The first week of September we will hold our Preschool Get - Acquainted Conferences. The purpose of this conference is to give parents and their child/children a chance to visit their classroom together, meet the teachers and share a little about themselves with the teachers. By the end of the summer, families will receive an invitation to this conference.
The dates for the Spring Parent - Teacher Conferences will be announced in the fall. The purpose of this conference is to let parents know how the school year has been going for their child and what their interests and abilities are as we see them. Questions from parents are welcomed. Any time parents have questions about their child’s progress or activities at school additional conferences or phone conversations can be arranged.
Parent orientation will be held at the beginning of the school year. Its purpose is to introduce you to our program and to each other. Also, we hope to answer any questions you may have about the program. The school calendar, class lists and other information will be handed out at this time.

Salem Preschool has a rotating, two year, theme based curriculum. Because many of our themes change from year to year, your child can be at Salem for two or three years and experience something new and challenging each year. Our goal is to help three, four and five year olds grow cognitively as well as socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually preparing them to enter kindergarten with the skills and self confidence that allows them to learn. We want them to understand that they are loved by God and that they, in turn, should love and respect others in God's world.
Our school day routine is broken into five parts.
1. Free play: Our play centers encourage small muscle skills, creative play and learning.
2. Art: Art is theme based and includes a wide variety of material and skills.
3. Calendar time: Calendar time is a large group time of sharing, stories, songs, musical games, and discussions centered around the theme of the week.
4. Snack: After a prayer is said, a light snack is shared. On special occasions we do a little cooking.
5. Large muscle play: Our day concludes with time spent in our large muscle room, gym, preschool garden, backyard or neighboring park.
Each of these segments has been carefully planned by our teachers to provide positive learning experiences for your child. Several times each year we invite a specialist (visitor) to join us bringing their knowledge and skills in a particular field to increase our understanding of a subject. People such as firefighters, police, nurses, carpenters, raptor volunteers, dentists, safety educators, musicians, and many more may be included in our curriculum. We hope our love for children shines through our daily routine!
